Week 6

This week what really stuck out to me was a speaker called Wences Casares. He spoke on the "Three Lessons About What It Means to be an Entrepreneur". 1 It was published on May 1st, 2007 and I really loved what he said about the downfall of being a serial entrepreneur. He said, "the way in how we create the most value is by doing the same thing for a very long time. By sticking with it". It made me think about the relationships I've had with other people and how the relationships that have lasted even through the hard and good and exhausting moments are the ones I most treasure today. It's because of what I put into it and how much I worked at that relationship that I love it even more because it is unique and special. The bond that we developed through those hard things is not found everywhere.       That can be true for a business as well. If I can find the thing I am meant to do and stick with one business that I can really work at and pursue a...

Week 5

In this week's reading, President James E. Faust talked about perseverance. There was a lot of talk about whether entrepreneurs are born with the talents to become successful or if it more based on the skills and hard work that you put into it. I think it was decided that the latter was true. President Faust talked a lot about how when you fall down, you must get up. I know that for me, all of the talents I have had naturally have withered away or would have if I didn't practice them.  I also think that it mattered less about what I was good at in the end, and more about what I was passionate about and willing to work for. That has by far mattered more than anything else. Having grit matters. I think it's also important to bled what you are good at with what you are meant to do in order to help people. There was a discussion about the blend of matching your talents with passions and your passions with available opportunities that make sense.   ...

Week 4

This week I read about Launching Leaders and especially focused on core values. It gave me to time to think about what matters most to me. Aligning my core values with God was not hard once I realized what I stand for and what my priorities are most. All of them were consistent with my testimony. I still have plenty to work on but it was reassuring.      Some of the core values that I looked over included family, honesty, loyalty, love, forgiveness, and creative expression. I was able to talk to my kids about core values as well and they have been giving it some thought as to what matters most to them. I also shared about how your values can change.      It was great in the videos and the other readings to be reminded that it is important and good thing to do what you love. Passion is not a bad thing. It can be a core value as well but it should be aligned with God.      I also enjoyed thinking about mentorship and w...

Week 3

This week, I learned a lot from the case study involving Magdelena Yesil. 1  I was inspired by her drive and self-determination. She was not intimidated about learning something on her own and she capitalized really off of her ability to work with people. That is a unique skill in today's day. I think so many are solitary and only focus on one skill set. I recognized the importance of having multiple talents and especially knowing how to collaborate, and work with people on your ideas is key if you are going to be an entrepreneur. I also really enjoyed the videos about honesty and ethics. I think the theme in all of the videos focused on being someone of integrity. They talked a lot about how no gain is worth it if you are doing it dishonestly or in a way that takes advantage of others. I think it is really easy to get stuck in the whirlwind of winning and financial success. There are a lot of risks in entrepreneurship and they can directly affect your family an...
