Week 6
This week what really stuck out to me was a speaker called Wences Casares. He spoke on the "Three Lessons About What It Means to be an Entrepreneur".1 It was published on May 1st, 2007 and I really loved what he said about the downfall of being a serial entrepreneur. He said, "the way in how we create the most value is by doing the same thing for a very long time. By sticking with it". It made me think about the relationships I've had with other people and how the relationships that have lasted even through the hard and good and exhausting moments are the ones I most treasure today. It's because of what I put into it and how much I worked at that relationship that I love it even more because it is unique and special. The bond that we developed through those hard things is not found everywhere.
That can be true for a business as well. If I can find the thing I am meant to do and stick with one business that I can really work at and pursue and pivot when things aren't working, but not abandon -- I can only then see the fruits of my labour in better entirety and create a unique and special business that is not found everywhere. I will need to go through those hard times, to get to the good.
I also appreciated the thoughts overall from the other readings about how we can gather ideas for our business, and how to set priorities and boundaries for our family's and church responsibilities. It is clear that to run a business successfully while still being successful at church and at home and with the kids will require a great deal of organization and focus on time management. It can still be wonderful but it does require some of that acceptance before jumping in.
